Reports reaching Newswatch Sierra Leone claim the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education (MBSSE) is on the verge of discontinuing the implementation of the New National School Curriculum in the Sierra Leone education architecture.
Sources say the bold step is being taken following non-acceptance of the revised curriculum by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
When Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister Moinina Sengeh was contacted to verify the truth of the claim, he responded with the word ‘not’, to suggest no action yet.
The 2025 Government WASSCE is ongoing based on the old WAEC Curriculum, with over one hundred thousand candidates missing out following BRS and portal issues.
Some heads of schools said the New National School Curriculum was implemented in a rush, citing the non-availability of materials to teach the revised subjects and the ones introduced. “The teachers also need proper training,” one remarked.
If systems were in place, the year 2026 will have marked the introduction of the revised curriculum at WASSCE.
