Seawater Takes Over Classrooms in Rokupa

A rush of seawater has taken over classrooms at the Rokupa Wharf Community Primary School, bringing teaching to a halt.

As the sea rises amid the rains, Chief of Rokupa Wharf Pa Almamy Kamara said his community continues to suffer inundation with the Rokupa Wharf Community Primary School incident being the latest.

Pupils had their school items destroyed while learning is being affected.

Head Teacher of the Rokupa Wharf Community Primary School Almamy Sahid Bangura said the drainage across could not prevent the flow of seawater into the classrooms, destroying valuable items.

Hawanatu Kalokoh, a parent, said extra classes are being brought to a halt. She revealed she had to buy new shoes for her children as the flooding ripped off the soles of the old ones.

Ealier cases of seawater surge accounted for the destruction of the clinic and toilets in that community.

Left with no option, the pupils, including some community members, had to use the very sea to defecate.
