The All People’s Congress Party (APC), in a letter, has called on its former Presidential candidate and leader Dr. Samura Kamara to exit his position in the Party in accordance with Section 47 (a) (iv) of the APC 2022 Constitution.

The Secretary General, in a letter addressed to Dr. Samura Kamara, made reference to a meeting held on 27th December 2023, exactly six-months following the declaration of the 2023 elections results where the Party and Dr. Kamara, his running mate, the National Chairman and the Publicity Secretary discussed the constitutional provisions of the Party and its importance.

The Secretary General quoted Dr. Samura Kamara’s acceptance to cease in his role as flagbearer and leader of the Party. He further stated that they unanimously agreed that he would however continue to lead matters relating to the Tripartite Committee until the report was completed and submitted, a reason why they allowed him to continue to occupy the office space meant for the national leader of the Party.

“Now that the Tripartite Committee’s report has been submitted, and implementation efforts are advancing consistent with the Agreement of National Unity, we respectfully request that you return the keys to the National Leader’s office to the undersigned within a week of receiving the letter,” he added.

The Secretary General recounted the former presidential candidate’s 2024 New Year’s message in which he stated that he is a law-abiding citizen and has great respect for the Party’s constitution. He referenced that Samura Kamara stated that he had no plans to breach such. “We are grateful for the commitment which provides clarity to the matter,” the Secretary General stated.
