Energy Debate: KKY Fires Back at JFK!

Sonta Kamara

Sierra Leone’s Energy Lead Chairman Dr. Kandeh Yumkella (KKY) has swiftly responded to claims made by Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK) of main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party on the position that electricity in Freetown during the APC regime was good and rosey.

KKY humorously questioned the then government’s invite of AGRECCO and Karpowership in 2017.

He said that numbers matter in the energy sector, a reason why he posed questions to him on how much power they generated, how much they bought, how much money was involved, and what they made out of it.

“Propaganda has a short shelf life,” he noted.

JFK, however, accused the government of spending a whooping sum of $300,000,000 on Karpowership while the country is still grappling with intermittent blackout.

He said such money could have been used to build domestic energy infrastructure.
