The authority of Chicken Town has laid off the entire management of its Old Railway Line branch without pay following alleged theft.

Thirty-six staffers, including chefs and bar attendants, were among those who suffered the brunt on claims of salses malpractices.

Chicken Town authority claimed that some food items were being sold out without receipts on several occasions.

This came three months after it took two of its workers to the police station on allegation that the staffers were connected to the missing of forty thousand New Leones.

Regarding the 36 laid off, Chicken Town top management claimed it has proofs that workers were engaged in malpractice, but those sacked said the authority has not provided evidence to justify the claim.

Some of the aggrieved staffers who spoke to this medium said they had worked for Chicken Town for over four years when the abrupt verbal termination came.

Reports say Chicken Town authority did not follow the Sierra Leone Labour Law in terminating the contract of workers who were given employment letters.

According to Section 107(1) of the Sierra Leone Employment Act, 2023), an empoyer should provide a minimum of 30 days’ notice prior to an employee’s contract termination. However, the authority of Chicken Town neither followed this procedure nor paid the laid-off staffers who worked for 26 days in November 2024, when the verbal termination came.
