The African Union Commission (AUC) on 5th June 2025 made a clarion call to President Trump to reconsider his decision to impose new travel restrictions on several countries, including Sierra Leone.
While the AUC recognizes the sovereign right of all nations to protect their borders and ensure the security of their citizens, it made an appeal to the US to exercise this right in a balanced, evident- based manner, reflective of the long standing relationship between US and Africa.
The Commission added that it is deeply concerned about the potential negative impact of such measures in existing activities.
It called on the US Administration to consider adopting a more consultative approach and to engage in constructive dialogue with the countries affected.
The Commission further appealed for transparent communication, and where necessary, collaborative approach to address the issue.
