77 Soldiers to Retirement for Misconduct

The office of the Directorate of Defence Public Relations and Information at the Ministry of Defence on Friday 29th November 2024 approved compulsory retirement and dischargement of 77 RSLAF personnel.

The administrative dischargement involves fifty-three officers ranging from Major General to Lieutenant, retired as part of administrative measures.

The Defence Council further approved the compulsory discharge (absent without leave) of 11 officers, from Major to Lieutenant, discharged for prolonged absent without leave (AWOL) and the compulsory discharge (misconduct) of six other officers from Lieutenant Colonel to Lieutenant, discharged for misconduct.

According to the release issued out on Friday, the decision aligns with Section 169 (1) of the constitution of Sierra Leone Act No. 6 of 1991 ad paragraph 26 and 27 (a and b) of the Army Orders No. 1 of 1965.

The Defence Council says it has approved a lump sum payment equivalent to a year salary for the 53 officers in the Administrative Discharge category in addition to their gratuity and other entitlements.

The discharges, the release stated, took immediate effect upon announcement, and the names of the affected officers are expected to be published in the National Gazette for reference.
