The prevalence of the MPox virus in the Western Area Urban is worrisome as the infection rate is skyrocketing on a daily basis.
As of Thursday, 15th May 2025, Western Urban topped the infection cases, accounting for 1513 of the 2,354 total cumulative cases from the sixteen regions.
The Western Urban has more cases than the fifteen regions combined, a reality that has sparked desperation as people scurry in the brinks.
Second on the list is Western Rural with 496 casa as Bombali follows at 120.
A total of 13 deaths have been recorded since the first confirmed cases of Mpox in January 2025.
About one thousand two hundred and thirty-two males have been infected with the virus, with 1,122 females suffering from the same.
One hundred and fifty new cases have been recorded.
The Minister of Health Austin Demby has called on members of the public to practise preventive measures in an effort to curb the spread of Mpox in Sierra Leone as there are limited vaccines available at the moment.
