Subscribers of Orange Sierra Leone woke up Thursday morning to a shocking 80 percent increment in the price for data subscription.
Customers say they were not notified formally through the necessary handles with reasons not advanced regarding the same.
The Project Manager of Orange Sierra Leone, Elizabeth Walker, said the increment on data fee is in consultation with their users countrywide.
She added that the move stemmed from public demand for an increase in speed of internet connectivity and a slight shift in the cost of the service.
Since the morning of Thursday, there have been distressing calls on the impromptu increase in the weekly subscription from SLe 60 to SLe 100.
Members of the public are of the opinion that this is extortion, taking into consideration the series of challenges faced using the Orange network.
The National Tele Communications Authority (NaTCA) early this year slammed a million dollar fine on Orange for poor service delivery, having failed to meet the deadline to improve it.
One Abu Kargbo said NaTCA should have ensured Orange SL upgraded its service to meet its customer demand before jumping on the band wagon.
