The Hon. Speaker of Liberia Parliament Richard Nagbe Koon has made a clarion call for the establishment of an Mano River Union (MRU) Parliament by outlining its socio economic benefits.
During his speech in the chamber of Sierra Leone Parliament, he alluded that it’s high time member states came together to elevate their corporation from executive dialogue to legislative coordination.
He pledged Liberia’s unweaving support to the establishment of a Mono River Union Parliamentary Body to bolster regional cohesion, harmonize policy responses and deepen regional cohesion.
He tabled the following objectives: Promote Harmonized Legislation, align national laws on trade, security, education, and Infrastructure to support regional integration, strengthen Democratic Oversight, facilitate Dialogue, support Youth and Gender Inclusion and Environmental and Resource Governance, and promote common legislative positions on regional issues.
“This vision is not born in isolation. It echoes the fruitful dialogue I held earlier this year with the speaker of the National Assembly of Cote D’Ivoire Parliament, His Excellency Adama Bictogo.
He made a clarion call for MRU legislatures to champion conflict prevention mechanisms and to ensure robust parliamentary oversight in fostering peace across borders.
The MRU, founded in 1973, has served as a framework for cooperation among Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Cote D’Ivoire.
