In a press release issued on Saturday, 3rd May 2025, the Government, through its Ministry of Information and Civic Education , has ordered the removal of illegal street signs, banners, and posters from the streets of Sierra Leone.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have been tasked to work with the various councils to remove all illegal street signs, banners, and posters countrywide.
According to the release, the move is a civic call to beautify “our communities and uphold the rule of law.”
Acting upon the instructions of President Bio, Chief Minister convened a meeting with key stakeholders including the Freetown City Council, which gave birth to an inter-agency technical team to review regulations and restore order to public signage nationwide.
The streets are said to be cluttered with unauthorized signs, banners, and posters from political, commercial, religious, and social groups.
