The Ministry of Energy on 9th June 2025 saic there will be some “load shedding” of electricity in Freetown.
This development stemmed from a disconnection notice put out by Karpowership on May 28, 2025, due to uncleared government debt.
However, Karpowership is said to make a commitment to maintaining 6MW supply of electricity to essential services, including hospitals.
The Ministry of Energy they are working hard to mitigate the impact of the reduction in power supply to Freetown.
While the Energy Ministry underscored ongoing reforms at EDSA to ensure technical and commercial viability of the utility, it posited that they are working on possible extension of a year’s contract with EDSA.
It assured residents of Freetown that the “low shedding” process would be properly managed.
