Amadu Brima, former NRA Deputy Director of Finance (2007–2012), has revealed that the revenue generation institution owes over 3 billion old Leones just in PAYE.

He averred that during his time, he wrote a series of memoranda on NRA’s tax liabilities to raise an eyebrow on the genuine concern but the management, he said, prepaid fictitious documents to validate their claim that indeed the said amount had been paid.

He cited a scenario in November 2011 when a payment voucher (referred to as BPR- Bank Payment Request) was cunningly posted in the cash book but did not reflect on the bank statement of the month and year. “There was no clear indication that the debt was paid,” he added.

Mr. Brima further opined that the NRA financial statements could not have been audited by the Auditor General or an auditor appointed by the Auditor General from 2009 to date.

This came as NRA has ordered the closure of the office of EDSA and the Ministry of Energy for debt owed.
