The Female Parliamentary Caucus together with International IDEA, with support from the European Union, on 15-16 June 2025, held an insightful engagement in Kenema on Standing Orders and enhancing accountability for implementing the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act.

The two-day training is said to align with parliamentary practices with the objective of the GEWE Act and, by extension, equip female legislators with the requisite tools to unearth gender gaps in existing procedures and proposed actionable reforms.

Hon. Wuyatta Songa, in her opening address, stressed the importance of reforming parliamentary procedures to that which reflects gender equality.

“The training was timely and essential,” she added.

Country Director of International IDEA, Dr. Mahmoud Bah, reiterated the organization’s unflinching support to strengthen democratic institutions and governance in Sierra Leone. According to Dr. Bah, their core mandate is to support democracy and inclusive political processes.

Members of the Female Caucus and some civil society organizations were beneficiaries of this training.
