Director General of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) Rtd. Lieutenant General Brima Sesay has linked the collapse of the seven-storey building at Shell to the offloading of two containers of engine and gear oil to the top floor of the said building.
He confirmed this on Tuesday at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education Weekly Press Briefing.
While cautioning all that he is not an expert to determine the cause of the catastrophe, he said such weight at the top floor could be one of the circumstances that led to the disaster.
“The building crumbled from the top to bottom, which shows the building collapse has nothing to do with foundation problem” he added.
According to him, an investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the collapsed.
The Shell disaster left sixteen dead from a total of 24. Eight were recovered alive, including a young child who had been under the rubbles for about 72 hours.
The NDMA Boss said a bag containing NLe 56,600 was found and handed back to the rightful owner in the presence of community stakeholders and the press.
He expressed profound gratitude to the community people, SLP, RSLAF, Fire Force, Shuman, ONS, Gento Group of Company, Sierra Rutile, and others for their swift response. He highlighted that private companies rendered their services on a pro-bono basis.
