The National Sports Authority (NSA), through guidance from its learned head Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, has saved the nation over $50,000 by taking Leone Stars Afcon home match against Chad from Morocco to Liberia.

This unprecendented government savings, which could have been expended to cover costs of air tickets for the entire delegation from Sierra Leone to Morocco and certain match requirements, will now be directed to other pressing needs in Liberia.

A few years ago, FIFA banned a number of stadiums in some African countries, Sierra Leone inclusive, for failing to uphold standards. Ever since, the country has been hosting its FIFA and CAF matches in Morocco.

However, the ascendency of Dr. Saffa Abdulai to the NSA throne has brought in the maxim of cost saving. The bold step is consistent with Government’s strides to create jobs for thousands of youths through sports.

Regarding the change of venue, the NSA Boss stated: “Liberia is going to be our host nation for Sierra Leone vs. Chad match in the Totalenergies 2025 AFCON Qualifiers and subsequent matches. We are not only saving costs but are attracting more supporters to follow the team, thereby generating revenue from gate-takings, which we will remit to the consolidated fund.

“We need supporters to motivate the team. This is key in football,” Dr. Abdulai said.

The National Sports Authority is an agency of Government established by an Act of Parliament with the mandate to promote, encourage, develop, and supervise all sports and sporting activities in Sierra Leone and to provide for other related matters.
