The Administration of Fourah Bay College (FBC) said in its Monday release that it had received complaints and some evidence linking some class representatives to the extortion of money from other students in exchange for continuous assessment grades.
According to its Deputy Registrar Brima Bah, Class Rep Patrick Bella Fonnie of the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences has been sending messages to unsuspecting students requesting monetary contributions from them in exchange for continuous assessment grades. “The Administration will investigate whether he was asked to do so by any lecturer or staff,” he wrote, promising that action would be taken against him and any accomplice if found culpable.
He went on to advise students not to contribute any money outside their official university fees and praised the courageous ones for bringing the matter to their attention.
