Minister of Trade and Industry Alpha Ibrahim Sesay has announced that over $428 million have paved way for the establishment of over 10 new factories in Sierra Leone including Rockcem and Salco.
He made this revelation on Tuesday at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education weekly press conference in Freetown.
Minister Sesay said the establishment of these factories will enhance availability of some key produce at a cheaper cost. He pointed out the case of Adhav Industry, which will soon commence the production of iron-rods at local level, supporting Sierra Leone’s economic growth in domestic manufacturing, job creation, and economic self sufficiency.
He further highlighted the ongoing test phase of the Ministry’s website, which is geared towards transparency and easy access to information surrounding its work.
Minister Sesay added that the government has introduced another phase of disbursement of Munafa Fund, which has already benefitted 10,000 SMEs, of which about 80% are women, with NLe 23 million each.
Marie Sesay, a trader, said the prices of basic commodities are skyrocketing, and she is on the brink of running out of business.
