Reports say the Head Coach of Camp Canada Athletics Club Alimamy Albert Kamara is nowhere to be found after he was attacked by unknown men while returning home after training on Tuesday evening.

Eyewitnesses told this medium that the coach sustained knee injuries as he was hit by a stick and swept to the ground.

Kamara’s neighbours said he had been complaining about receiving death threat messages from unknown persons ever since Mr. Karim Sesay, a man whose leadership he has been vocal against, lost to Martin Momoh Bangura in the presidential bid to lead the Sierra Leone Athletics Association.

Insiders said Coach Almamy Kamara was the first to lead the charge against Andrew Hope, accusing him of overstaying in office and denying true athletes scholarships and international participation slots for people he claimed know nothing about the sport.

“Coach Alim once told us that he had a call from someone telling him that he would hunt him out wherever he goes and kill him one day if he does not stop his campaign against Andrew Hope,” said one athlete.

Ever since the evening attack, neighbours said they have not seen Coach Alim

Violence and death threats in Sierra Leone sports during elections are growing as similar stories from the Cricket Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone Football Association, and other sporting disciplines take centre stage.

The National Sports Authority says it is working on a policy to create a court of arbitration to handle critical disputes such as those stemming from election crisis.
