The Minority Leader of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party in Parliament Hon. Abdul Kargbo said on Tuesday that they will suspend their participation in parliament over the non-resignation of the Clerk of Parliament.
This decision, Mr. Kargbo said, is a result of the persistent pursuit of the Clerk of Parliament to run for executive role of the SLPP, a double stride he believes undermine the neutrality and integrity of his office.
“We have called for the dismissal or resignation of the clerk,” Hon. Kargbo said, citing the Clerk’s open involvement in partisan politics.
He further argued that Parliament is a national institution that must be protected from all levels of political biases. He added that the Clerk’s conduct threatens parliament independence and credibility.
He went on to say that the Speaker vowed that he would provide a formal reply to the said letter within a week but that they pinpointed on their existing stance until they receive the Speaker’s response.
This stance, he said, is not aimed at disrupting governance but to safeguard the ethical standards that underpin “our democracy.”
